Catherine Allgor Brings Dolley Madison To Life

What do you know about the amazing Dolley Madison?

If it’s cupcakes, you don’t know the real story, insists Dr. Catherine Allgor, a professor of history at the University of California and Yale Ph.D., who is now the director of education and the Huntington Library Art Collection and Botanical Gardens.

Her 2006 book, “A Perfect Union: Dolley Madison and the Creation of the American Nation,” was a finalist for the George Washington Prize in 2007. Allgor’s book was then turned into the script for the American Experience film for PBS entitled, “Dolley Madison: America’s First Lady.”

In this podcast interview you’ll learn:

  • While we certainly have all known about her since we studied history in elementary school — we don’t really know about the impact that Dolley made.
  • Three things that we should all know about this truly amazing woman.
  • How and why Allgor became interested in studying the life of Dolley Madison.
